Description

Join Metropolis' Susan S. Szenasy and SOM Chicago for a Think Tank discussion on Autonomous in Chicago: Transit Beyond the Grid.

Abstract: Chicago’s transit system serves more than 1.5 million people every day. As one of the world’s most resilient cities, Chicago is poised to lead the world in future-focused transit. How can designers, researchers, transit experts, and AV creators come together to help shape a more equitable, accessible transit network to serve all Chicagoans? Can autonomous vehicles—buses, high-speed, private pods, and more—provide a flexible, modular solution to bolster and transform Chicago’s extensive transit network? In a city challenged by urban sprawl and inequality, we’ll discuss how transit and infrastructure can adapt to Chicago’s changing demographics to respond to the needs of communities located beyond the rail network.
